Geoffrey Hawgood bought his first truck, an Isuzu 8 wheeler body truck in 1981 at 23 years old to cart aggregates from Petrie Quarry. He worked as a sole trader for the original company of Farley & Lewers that has now transitioned through the years to Readymix, CSR, Cemex, Rinker & currently, Holcim-LaFarge.
Geoff's early days of driving included one of the first truck & dogs in Qld - a UD and a then a little later on, bought his first International. After securing a permanent contract with Readymix, the first business expansion came in the form of a partnership named “Triple H”: Hawgood, Hill & Holding.
With changing contract demands, the current fleet consists of more flexible combinations of semis, a road train, truck & dogs and a powder tankers. Hawgood Haulage is still contracted to Holcim but also provides services Boral, Neilsens, Hanson/Hymix, Hanson & most recently the Brisbane City Council.
In 2004, Geoff was joined in the business by son, Zane, driving a body truck. Zane, now in Company Management, has a wealth of experience hauling aggregates, seafood to Darwin, grain and cattle in the West & has driven many combinations including road trains & AB triples and more recently Powder Tankers for Boral & Nielsens.
In 2006, Geoff’s wife, Nicoli, retired from teaching to join the Management Team to assist with the growing fleet and compliance demands. The first Company was formed in 2011 - trading as Hawgood Haulage with a regular fleet of 6-8 vehicle, still carting aggregates & pit waste materials in Kenworth Semi (tippers). Hawgood Haulage work has predominantly been within the Brisbane Metropolitan area with the exception of a few years to fulfill gravel contracts in Rockhampton & Amby… and a few short-term contracts moving clinker, gypsum, sand and fresh produce in fridge vans to Melbourne.
In 2020, we welcomed Zane’s wife, Sophia, as the newest member of our Admin & Safety Team.
Since 2022, our fleet has grown to 13 vehicles: predominantly consisting of Truck & Quad Dogs to meet increasing work demands in the approach to the Olympic Games scheduled for Brisbane in 2032.
